All the small things

Great things come in small packages or so the saying goes . . . So I've applying this mantra to my week!

In the spirit of being a recessionista and domestic goddess, I baked some cupcakes to provide as gifts.  With the amount of cupcakes I can produce from the batch of ingredients bought, I'm definitely making savings against shop-bought cakes, they also taste better too! I  tested out another recipe from the Hummingbird Bakery cookbook, this time vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting and chocolate crispy bits.  I packaged them in a great cupcake gift box (available from Sainsbury's) so they really looked the business.  While everyone testing the cupcakes liked them, I honestly preferred the vanilla frosting and sprinkles.



I like receiving presents and parcels in the post too. I've just received the latest copies of Easy Living, Glamour and InStyle to read.  I just don't know which to start reading first! 

Perhaps it should be InStyle which has a shoe special feature.

The one thing I have noticed following the recession, is the lack of free gifts with magazines these days. Its really disappointing, what do you think?


Blackpool Illuminations are now on show every night here following the Robbie Williams switch-on.  This is always an indication that Autumn is on its way and the nights are drawing in. This is my favourite time of the year and as evenings get darker, I'll be curled up on the couch catching up on my reading, its a perfect excuse to do necessary research for my blog!

Hi there-yes the season for free gifts has come and gone I reckon, my only thing I've kept this year was a Felder Felder tote bag from Marie Claire, I got the Paul & Joe vest from Elle this year, but it was no good-but my free one from last year is still going strong!! Those cakes look so yummy! xx

My new obsession

A year ago, I decided to do something about getting healthy and making time for exercise.   I'd tried a gym and managed to fall off  a treadmill, my attempt at Zumba was one spin too many and trampolining keep fit resulted in painful knees and a struggle to get up off a train seat. But I've caught the running bug! This time last year I started to go running, after seeing an online post about starting up a small running group.  My early running days were a struggle, barely able to jog let alone run for a minute.  But I stuck to it and can now run for ten minutes nonstop, actually run! The beach promenade is my gym, a early morning run on a Saturday morning is my work out and I am ready for more.  Instead of a new years resolution, I set myself challenges for this year including running my first 5k and by spring I aim to do this. It does mean that some of my footwear choices lately haven't been about the height but more about comfort and speed, but it doesn't me

Shoe of the week

Shoe of the week . . . Really? For the current weather we are experiencing, I should be nominating a pair of waders of the week!  With May apparently going to be the wettest month this year, a pair of wellingtons rather than a great pair of heels is what you need.  But why should they be boring. These wellies from Funky Wellingtons should be enough to brighten any dismal day. Got to protect those paws I can't forget my four-legged friends during the wet weather, our dogs still need to get outside and exercise but it doesn't mean they are waterproof!  So, a set of boots for dogs would be perfect to ensure those lower to the ground are protected from the cold too!.
