I chose to make a 'statement'

This post has been long overdue . . . I'm still struggling with feeling creative, I seriously need something to revitalise my mojo for blogging.  For this post I kept thinking of a post title like Just a splash of red or they had me at hello but if I don't post something today, I could be still here pondering my thoughts and not placing them in print by my next birthday! So here it is, a brief introduction to my Louboutins. Back in November, I celebrated my 40th birthday.  I must stress that I celebrated and did not commiserate my fourth decade of existence.  I spent a weekend in Liverpool where I enjoyed Tapas, shopping, cocktails, 80s retro bars (well really a strange basement bar, near the Cavern, where I got the chance to dance to Chesney Hawkes without derision) and reducing the multi-cultural divide with a number of people from the Scandinavia who were visiting for that weekend's Liverpool game.  Unfortunately at the point when three gentlemen fro...

Cake

Image
So you can't celebrate a birthday without a bit of cake!  This is my birthday cake made by a very special and talented friend Sylvia.  Its a pair of Yummy Shoo (the cake equivalent of Jimmy Choo) with their shoe box and tissue paper made of icing.  It's honestly too good to eat but as it's filled with vanilla sponge and buttercream, it would be a waste not to.  I'm sharing this lovely cake with over 40 fabulous ladies at my party on Friday night, I'll let you know if I have leftovers.  And I'll get a better picture too! Now I wonder why she choose shoes for the design . . .

The countdown has begun

Forget Christmas! Its officially just 24 days till I am forty years old.  Like the Queen, I am going to have two birthday celebrations, the first in two weeks time where I will be partying with around 40 ladies at the Sands Venue where we will enjoy a lovely meal, cocktails and a Take That Tribute night.  I'm sure that this will guarantee that we will be hitting the dance floor. As Take That have split for a while then I'd be happy for Howard Donald to join us to 'Take That and party' , I heard that Gary Barlow is a bit busy at the weekend so won't expect him to turn up!  I asked all the ladies to wear their most fabulous shoes. Then, I will be celebrating my official birthday in Liverpool where I plan to shop and drink plenty of cocktails! So at the present time I am organising and planning activities. Finding a suitable dress seems a bit of a struggle but I'm hoping that this dress from Wallis will fit the bill for one of my nights out. Now I'm off t...

I am a bad bad blogger!

Image
So much to do, so little time! I'm really busy at the moment: working, spring cleaning, etc. I haven't had much time to blog or catch up on all those lovely blogs I follow. I've got some posts I need to do about recent purchases, birthday plans, I just need to get organised. I'm also finding that 'all work and no play' is making me boring so I cannot wait until Easter is a couple of weeks to have a couple of drinks and a relaxing time. I'm dreaming of a nice cold beer Its now 236 days until my 40th birthday so I'm starting to make plans for celebrating my birthday. I've just realised that I am 'nearly' only ten years younger than SuBo, I honestly thought she was older than that! Not sure if I feel traumatised by the fact that there is only a decade between us. I'm also dreaming of a pair of Louboutin Bibi shoes which are top of my birthday present wish list too. I am off to get organised and get back to my blogging duties. I have 'B...

Happy Birthday dad

Image
Dad as popeye at a party in the mid nineties Today was my dad's birthday, our birthdays are exactly a week apart so often we shared a joint celebration. Any excuse to have a family get together.  He died seven months before his 60th birthday and regardless of the years that have passed he is still greatly missed.  His name was Jimmy Valentine, he was the kind of person that everyone liked, not a bad word was said about him. Every year we ensure that we are together on his birthday, that we visit and say a little prayer and tell him how much he is missed.  His final resting place is really pretty by a pond and today it snowed so everywhere was beautiful with that first touch of snow.  He loved nature and the fact that around 20 ducks followed us to his graveside, like they were paying their respects rather than looking for bread, seemed like a sign. Our grandmother, my mum, two of dad's sisters, me and my sisters went to put flowers on the grave.  My gra...

Destination anywhere . . .

Image
. . .  east or west, I don't care. Fastforward to 2011 and in November I will be forty.  Based on the current economical climate I could be celebrating my fortieth year with a bag of chips on Blackpool promenade.  Not a great option in November! My husband has told me that he plans to take me away for the weekend, somewhere special, we just need to decide and its dependant on funds available.  Now the options could be endless - a weekend in New York, a snowy break in Krakow (weather permitting) or a show in London, but I honestly can't decide what I would want to do.  New York on my birthday would be fabulous but the prices would be more expensive as it falls during Thanksgiving, but I'd love to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade.  I also want to go to London to watch Wicked , eat at Marco Pierre-White's restaurant (steak and triple-cooked chips, yummy!) and visit the Selfridges shoe floor (if they let you do sleepovers here then it would save ...

French Sole goes retro

Image
In 1989, Rain Man won the Oscar for best film, Nintendo launched the Game Boy and New Kids on the Block were in the charts.  It was also the year French Sole was 'born'.  Now, French Sole is celebrating its 21st by selling 21 of its bestsellers at 1989 prices.  I can't think of a better way to celebrate a birthday!
