Faking it

There's an article online on the Daily Mail website about creating a DIY Louboutin. And the only word I can think of is why? Does creating a designer shoe, that still costs you over £100 and goodness knows how much time and patience, give you that feeling of satisfaction in finding the perfect shoe? While I am lucky to have a couple of designer pairs in my shoe collection, I can still get excited about buying a pair that cost me £20.  Its about the shoe, how it makes me feel, when I'm going to wear them and what the memories I've created wearing them . . . definitely not the price.  I'm just not sure I'd want to spend hours creating a 'fake' shoe to wear out, when I could be spending the time buying a pair of shoes that are within my budget.

Shoes in the News

M & S have launched their own brand of 'fit flops' called StepTone . Priced around £25 - £35 they are cheaper than their rivals but will people opt for something cheaper to become 'fit' rather than a 'flop'?

Walk a mile in their shoes

I spotted this article in the Daily Mail (apologies but I find their online news pages a bit addictive!).  If you want a small taste of the celebrity life, you now have chance while helping raise funds for charity at the same time. A number of celebrities from Pink to Shirley Bassey have donated their footwear for an online charity auction.  Give Landmines the Boot is a campaign being run by Mag - Mines Advisory Group.  The shoes are from high street to designer and its not all for the girls, celebrities like David Walliams and Alan Shearer has made donations too! Bids can be made on ebay from 22nd July. For more information visit the Mag website

Our survey said

An article  in the Daily Mail reports on the findings of a study where its been established that the average woman in her lifetime spends more than £16,000 on shoes - flip flops, boots, heels, etc - in her lifetime.  The study, by  Gocompare  questioned 3,000 women on their shoe habits.  From the results, its worked about that from the age of 14 over the course of their lifetime women will buy around 469 pairs of shoes. Its made me think that if I resisted the temptation, over the course of my life, to buy shoes and save the money, that by the time I hit 70 I would finally be able to afford that Yellow Volkswagen Beetle that I've been coveting for such a long time.  But then, were would the fun be in that, I'd had wouldn't have enjoyed the memories that my shoes have carried me to! I do wonder though, where the survey took place . . . Thing is, the survey says that the average woman has at any point in time got around 19 pairs of sh...

Something for the weekend

Image
Well, we are coming to the end of another Bank Holiday weekend and I was really pleased with myself yesterday. For drinks with the girls, I had the opportunity to showcase the newest addition to my shoe collection. I wore these luscious coral heels with some superskinny indigo ankle length jeans, a new lace/cami vest and a blue pinstripe jacket that I've owned for a number of years.  Accessories were some nude jewellery and my mum's vintage tan mini-satchel.  I felt fab, first time in ages (although I have a bit of a bad head today) and was inspired to wear a mixture of old and new, vintage and different fabrics/patterns by years of watching SATC. Which leads me on to an article in the Daily Mail today about SATC and fashion. Its really critical of the fashion, I just don't think the writer gets SATC. Not everyone religiously wears what Carrie Bradshaw and Co wears,  but you can take aspects of it and create your own...

Why SJP has got my vote

While checking out the latest news on the election, I spotted this article on Sarah Jessica Parker in the Daily Mail . It makes a nice diversion from wondering who will be in power next week. SJP has been my number one style crush since the first episode of Sex and the City. All these years later, she still one on the most stylish celebs to be seen a red carpet and looks absolutely gorgeous. Even Carrie Bradshaw would be coveting this outfit.

I knew I was right!

There's a great article online at the Daily Mail today, to dispense health myths, health experts were asked to provide tips to healthier living. This was, of course, my favourite part of the article!   I always knew there was a perfectly good reason why I like my stilettos. ALWAYS WEAR HEELS ‘I practise what I preach and wear a small, wide heel whenever possible,’ says Simon Costain, of the Gait & Posture Centre in London. ‘Many people’s foot, leg and back problems are caused by wearing flat or no shoes at all. ‘A ½in to ¾in heel lifts, softens and takes the stress out of your knees and tendons, encouraging you to stand with straighter legs. Flip flops and flats induce a knock-kneed gait and transfe r.  There is also a great tip for working on the deep core muscles in your abdomen by standing on one leg whilst brushing your teeth - this is one mini-workout that i have to try!
