unplanned blog break

I unofficially had the weekend off blogging this weekend: a combination of shopping for necessities, forgetting to take my camera out, my first night out in months requiring a full day of recovery and power naps and the trauma of a lost dog.

Minor rant here about how people have no consideration for other peoples property or rights to privacy.  My dogs were staying with my mum on Saturday while we were out.  At around 8 o'clock the next morning we heard the phone and you know when you get an early call that something is wrong.  Well my dog Jasper was missing and had got out of my mum's garden as someone had entered her garden and left the gate open.  My mum has then found out that when children have been playing football in the street (which is I believe illegal) they have been in and out of her garden constantly. A fellow neighbour questioned their right to access my mum's garden, they have lied and said they've had permission to do so! Please don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-kids but the playing of football in the streets is becoming a big nuisance to a lot people and going into my mum's garden like this is really rude and resulted in my dog getting out.  Anyway my poor mum had been searching for Jasper for about an hour before she had to ring and tell us that he had gone.  Panic set in, mostly me because we had lost a dog years earlier and the thought of losing Jasper is unbearable.  So hungover and rushing to get dressed, my husband and I were gearing up for a large search.

For some reason I had the urge to look out of our bedroom window and there he was, outside the next door's garden.  Like Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate, I banged on our window frantically and shouted 'Jasper' and screamed at Chris to get the door open.  The look on Jasper's face when he realised he was home was amazing, he ran to the gate and ran straight in the house and up the stairs to me.  It might not seem like a lot but its around a 20 minute walk to my mum's and requires the crossing of four main roads as well as being a busy route between towns.  For him to get home and not run over to me is amazing and like that old Disney film The Incredible Journey.

Now I'm off to catch up on all your lovely blogs!

Hi my dear-what an amazing tale, so sorry to hear of how he went missing in the first place, but that really is awesome and spectacular how he got home to you, that is so cool and cute xx
Wow that is amazing that he made his way home, thank goodness! Suggest Mum gets a padlock so the kids can't open it x

Aww this is amazing! Go Jasper! Your "Graduate" metaphor made me laugh (even though I know this type of thing is super traumatic). Thank God he's safe.

Thanks for your lovely comments! Update on Jasper, he's still a bit tired from his incredible journey and he has been quite wary of venturing out in my mum's garden. PS we are buying a BIG padlock! xx
