Today I will be on shoe patrol

Image
Today its my cousin's wedding and it will be the first time I've had chance to wear my Louboutins.  I'm a bit nervous about this and I've already scotch-guarded them ready for the day [I can't imagine Posh Spice doing this somehow].  I've already been forewarned that the soles are very delicate so it will be interesting to see how they look at the end of the day. I have had a sneak preview of the bride's gorgeous shoes (vintage-inspired) so I can't wait to post pictures later. And I'm going to be really brave today and ask to take pictures of people's shoes so I can post them on my blog and pintrest pages.  I got some great business cards from Vistaprint , to hand out, so hopefully people will not think I have some bizarre foot fetish!  As a 'starter for ten', I can show you what my Auntie Debbie will be wearing today, some lovely Ruby Shoo heels from TwinkleToes , a shoe boutique in our local town.  We need shops like these,...

Shoe of the week

Image
I have weddings on my mind this week with my cousin's wedding in September.  I think wearing the perfect shoe now comes a close second to buying the perfect dress. In my research for the perfect wedding shoe, I've come across these amazing shoes.   Not for the faint-hearted bride-to-be.  These babies need to be worn by a woman who is channelling Carrie Bradshaw and they need to be seen and not hidden under the dress.  I only wish I was getting married again so I could buy these to dance down the aisle in.

Early hours wedding

Still in good spirits at 2.30 in the morning! Last Thursday night I attended a wedding. The mother-in-law to be wore a hat, the champagne was on ice, the party poppers were prepared for popping and the bride and groom . . . were around 12,000 miles away. When I said last night, I actually meant at 1.30 am in the morning and the wedding took place in Australia! We 'attended' the wedding by Skype. Technology today amazes me, about 50 years ago Sylvia (newly crowned mother-in-law) emigrated with her family to Australia by ship which took around six weeks with around five port stops across the globe, keeping in touch was limited to telegrams and letters. This morning, we were able to watch live as her daughter and husband made their vows and we were able to join in the toast.   Despite the late hour we still managed to enjoy champagne and talk to the happy couple just minutes after the ceremony, such a wonderful moment for my friend and her family. Despite being thou...

Where were you in 1981?

With the build up to Wills and Kate's (I just can't call her Katherine) wedding next week, I just can't help thinking about past Royal Weddings. While all of the Queen's children have now married (or re-married), Charles and Diana's has always stood out as one of the most important Royal Weddings of our time. Obviously there has been comparisons today with Charles and Diana's wedding in 1981 but I don't quite think that the 2011 wedding will quite have the 1980's excesses that really defined the era from Diana's dress with the 25 foot train and the glass carriage that took her to her royal destiny.  The whole country stopped still to watch them kiss on the balcony.  So I wondered, where were you in 1981? I was 9 1/2 in 1981 and that summer me and my family were at Butlins in Skegness with a coachload of family and friends.  On the day of the wedding, every function room, bar and lounge had television screens showing the wedding.  It was a beauti...

When shopping can get personal

Image
I can't believe that we are over a third of the way through 2010! I've been married for over a year now and I've been reminiscing about that time recently. I didn't go down the traditional white wedding dress route - ever since I was a young girl, I'd never had that dream that I'd walk down the aisle in beautiful gown (this doesn't mean I'm anti-wedding gown, it just isn't me). The thing is, less than six months before our trip to Vegas, I really had no idea what I was going to wear. Blackpool has an ongoing regeneration project and a key part of this was a brand new shopping centre* with Debenhams the centrepiece. I decided to take advantage of their free personal shopper service and with my limited budget thought there was a slight chance of finding something suitable. I took my Marc Jacob shoes along to the appointment to see if I could find a dress to match my favourite shoes. I'd never done this before so didn't know what to expect, but...

Wedding Shoes

Image
I got married in 2009 in Vegas, we didn't have years to plan the wedding but wanted something small, not to fussy. Hence we went to Vegas! I didnt want a formal white wedding dress but something to go with my most treasured pair of shoes - Marc Jacobs I bought in San Fran a couple of years earlier (worthy of their own blog post later)The dress I chose was both different and not my first choice - it was salmon pink, had netted skirts and certainly didn't match my marc jacobs pale blue mary janes! However, finding the right shoes wasn't such a dilemma. I found a cute pair of silver shoes in New Look that really suited the dress. Another bonus was that they were kind of sixties style and reminded me of my mother's wedding shoes which I'd always liked. It helped me obtain a vintage style that I like and perfectly matched the vintage bouquet that a friend made for me. check out the picture!
