The shoe interview

Image
I think this proves that H is one of Fit Flops biggest fans I've not interviewed anyone about their shoes habits for a while so I had to ask my friend H about her fascination with FitFlops .  Now FitFlop say you can get a workout while you walk, designed to make your muscles do the work.  I asked H a couple of questions on her favourite style of shoes . . . How many pairs of fit flops do you own? Ten in various colours and styles. I'm a sucker for them, I actually have more than ten pairs but some are older and have been demoted to gardening duties.  Tell me about your recent purchases I've bought some great tan buckle fit flops and some pretty sandals with flower details. latest purchase(s) flower detail perfect for spring Are they just a summer thing? No, it's an all year round thing for me. Winter or spring, the fit flops have replaced shoes in my wardrobe, they are just so comfy. I know that fit flops have introduced boots into their ...

Your help is needed

I blog for my job, so use my personal blog to test out new blogger gadgets before I unleash them on my work blog. I'm testing out the poll gadget to see how it works, so for a bit of fun I've set up a couple of questions about your shoe shopping habits.  It means I can be a bit nosy and see how the gadget works. There's just two questions in the right hand corner of my blog so please help me out and have a go. Thanks xx

Shoe of the week

I couldn't resist these shoes from Dune @ Debenhams, I've fallen 'head over heels' with them - have you?

From the beaches of Brazil to the Blackpool sands

my faithful, yet battered flip flop Now I bet you thought I was going to talk about some holiday I took in some far flung place but no, I'm going to talk about flip flops.  Actually I need to discuss the ultimate in flip flops - Havaianas .  I've always bought cheap flip flops that last a summer and then end up in the bin a couple of months after constant use and abuse.  I'd never considered buying anything costing more than £5 that I would really only be used if I was by a pool or walking on a beach.  Then I saw these black pair in an online sale a couple of years ago and thought I'd increase the amount I was willing to pay for a pair of flip flops, so paid £15 for them.  Now I know it might sound a bit much but until you actually buy and use a pair, you don't realise what you might be missing out on! These are serious heavy-duty flip flops, I have worn them constantly throughout the past couple of years and they still haven't worn out, despite t...

Well our Spring is certainly turning out to be glorious (here's hoping it continues) so it seemed appropriate to nominate a nice sandal that's perfect to wear in the sun.  These cute wedges are from Pier a Terre. It's got a little bit of everything: a splash of red (what is it about red being a great summery colour),  a corsage detail, raffia rope detailing, wedge heel and an ankle strap.  Simply perfect.

So, we are just over two weeks away from the Royal Wedding, Kate and Wills have performed their last public engagement before they say 'I do' in front of a world-wide audience of millions, and I'm assuming that people are making plans to celebrate the wedding and the public holiday. These shoes are the closest I could get  to red, white and blue shoes for the royal occasion. Currently featured on the M&S Spring advert and modelled by Lisa Snowden, this are the perfect shoes for the celebrations, whether you're attending the church or a street party, you'll definitely be in style!

New shoes, nude shoes

Image
I needed some new shoes for work, my shoe collection is split into two camps - the premiership which are my shoes that I save 'for best' and the reserve side which are my work shoes. My work shoes are either bought specifically for work or are shoes relegated from the premiership due to poor performance or my love for them has waned but I still need to get my value for money.  Its not that I don't wish to wear some of my 'premiership' shoes for work but either driving in them or walking the 40 minute trek to work (with my dog in tow for half the journey) would be impractical. I needed some new shoes for work and rather than stick to the usual black court shoes, I've decided to dip into nude for Spring. I bought this about a month ago from Additions Direct (unfortunately I can't find a link to them on the site). I quite like the retro look about them and its still got a heel but I'll not cripple myself  while marching to work on the beat of my ipod....

These shoes available at Dorothy Perkins are perfect for Spring and the lady-like chic trend.  They're available in black, mint, coral, cream and grey.  It's an ideal shoe to complement any nod to Mad Men you might be planning this spring.  I can just imagine Betty Draper wearing these with some capri pants, a crisp shirt and obligatory scarf and sunnies.

Spotted on the street

I spotted Katie from work in these lovely shoes purchased in a Clark's sale.  Katie said this is the one pair of shoes out of all her shoes, that people comment on the most despite having more expensive shoes in her collection. On a current shopping trip with her young daughter, her love of shoes was brought into question when filling her shopping basket with more than a few pairs at Marks and Spencers, Katie was asked if she really needed that many shoes. . . . Well the current range at M and S are both tempting and good value for money, what's a girl supposed to do? I'm sure that there is plenty of time of Katie's daughter to learn that less is definitely not more when buying shoes, although I do hear that's she's developing a fine appreciation of handbags and shoes herself.. We discussed our mutual love of shoes when Katie mentioned a Spice-Girl influenced outfit back in the nineties (admit it, the Spice Girls were very influential during that era and ...

Shoe of the week

These shoes from Topshop just caught my eye during my weekly research for the shoe of the week. The shoe is called Glacier, seems a bit of a strange name considering how hot the shoe looks.  Which makes me wonder what the decision-making is behind a shoe's name and whether anyone takes notice of it when purchasing high street shoes.  I must admit I used to like browsing the Faith site and checking out the shoes named Betty, Muriel and Florence but I can honestly say I don't take much notice of what my shoes are actually called but I will do for future purchases. The Glacier shoe is also available in purple and black but the mustard would definitely be my first choice.

Looking for inspiration

I'm at home, its the weekend and I've developed a cold and sore throat.  Luckily the latest Glamour magazine sailed its way onto my doormat so I'm spending time indoors planning my spring and summer wardrobe.  Now I understand this year that the 'future's orange' this year so I've had a browse round to spot any shoes that might fit the bill.  Now I spotted these peep toe pumps by Chrissie Morris on the Matches website. These would definitely be on my shopping list if I had a limitless budget. Isadore python peep toe pumps available on Matches However these cork heels from Dorothy Perkins meet my high street budget. Plenty of choice on the high street But before I spent any pennies updating my wardrobe, I checked my shoe collection to see if I have anything already suitable and I do! I bought this coral suede shoes from Dorothy Perkins last year, so I'm sorted for a key trend this year, now I need to address stripes and florals! ...

plaid out in purple Now Jo from our office, is definitely a bargainista who doesn't believe in saving anything for best! - she looks fabulous 24/7.  I spotted her in these purple heels from Matalan and plaid tights from Primark (both purchases over 12 months old) which she teamed up with a layed LBD and purple belt.  24/7 glamour What I love about Jo is that she always manages to make Primark and similarr store purchases look more expensive and wearable. She's also a dab hand at finding high street treasures at reduced prices.

Still getting a tan in winter

Image
tan shoes from Matalan circa 2007 I think What is it about tan shoes that just really make an outfit pop or warm up a winter ensemble? There's something I really like about the richness of the colour especially with dark blue jeans. . My sister gave me these never-worn platforms from Matalan a couple of years ago. I love them and they have a bit of a retro seventies feel to them.  I call them my 'four-hour' shoes because, to be honest, that's about as long as I can actually wear them! Unfortunately they are really uncomfortable, I'm not sure if its the wooden heel and platform that aren't really that flexible but after a couple of hours wear my feet are ready to set free.  I just like them so much that I can't bear to part with them.  I guess I'm living up to the saying that fashion is pain. I think I'm in need for a tan

'1st 'Spotted on the street' post

I realise that I can't go on posting about my new purchases in this current climate, while there are lots and lots of shoes out there that I would love to purchase, I really need to not buy and save, save, save! I'm forty later this year I want to mark that occasion with a big purchase, maybe a pair of fabulous shoes.  To do that I need to resist the urge to hit the high street and shop till I drop! But I still want keep posting about shoes and nominating shoes of the week and keeping with the main theme of my blog, So I'm also going to look at what shoes people are wearing today, I'm going to call the posts 'Spotted on the street'  I'm always out and about with my camera in my bag just in case I spot shoes that I like but I've been conscious about asking people about the shoes they are wearing.  So from now on, I'm going to be fearless and ask them for a photo and find out a little bit about the shoes they've chosen to wear. So here's my...

These shoes were made for . . .

Image
have I met my match? . . . tottering! These were the other pair of shoes given to me as a present for my birthday.  I actually nominated them as a shoe of the week post over a month ago, so its quite nice to put 'my money where my mouth is' so to speak and actually purchase or receive something I nominated.  I've only just found out that they have this style in different colours but I think the cream and black would still be my first choice. They are really comfortable and very very high!  I wore these out for a birthday meal and to be honest I tottered rather than walked.  Good job I insisted on a taxi-to-venue policy for the night!  I wore these with some skinny black pants and a tweed jacket but I'm still not sure what other outfits would really show these off - any ideas are welcome.

New shoes for my collection

Image
These shoes were a present from my mum for my birthday.  They are probably the brightest that I own, I just spotted them in a shop window and liked them.  They were in one of those little boutique style shops were everything is one size and never really have anything I like so these shoes really are a one-off purchase for me.  I'm hoping to wear these for one event over Christmas, keeping it simple with some khaki cargo pants and top.  My sister and I have already started planning our festivities and have bought some Wii dance games for a party night so this might be the ideal opportunity to break these shoes in! The heels are quite high so I think I'll have to practise walking in them before I actually wear them out!

Space filled by Jasper

who said fashion was just for girls! I haven't had chance to post for a few days now, a combination of a bad cold, wall-paper stripping at my mum's house and trying to commence Christmas shopping has kept me busy.  What I've found so far is that its easier to share a cold than chocolate, stripping 40 year old ceiling tiles plays havoc with your hands (I look like I've done a round with David Hays!) and that lists do make a Christmas shop easier! We've been getting busy for the colder weather too, even the dogs have winter coats, Jasper is pictured wearing his.  He's looking a little scared while practicing his catwalk strut, Harvey's coat has just arrived today.  Speaking of Harvey, I've had success in my shirt for my missing shoe , my Zara shoe was found stashed in Harvey's favourite hiding space, under the bed in the spare bedroom.  It's relatively unscathed just a minor scratch on the toe.  Now I'm off to put them in a safe place...

Shoe of the week

This week, I'm researching work shoes, now these court shoes from Zara are perfect.  A low heel for comfort, patent for a bit of glam, and some tassles for detail.  Currently priced at £49.99.  The Zara website also has a lookbook function where it shows you outfits to complement your shoes (or should that be the other way round?).  I'm not really sure I like the outfit used, its looks a bit too much like a catholic school uniform, I've been there, done that and worn the t-shirt.  I'm not sure I could really rock that look again over 25 years down the line.
