My Top Ten

Image
I do like a good challenge and I've been chosen by Just Johnny...   to share 10 things I love. To meet the challenge, you have to use pictures to as well. I also have to choose 10 other bloggers to do the same. The ones that are chosen, are asked to choose some other bloggers to do it as well... so its a challenge that keeps on sharing. I thought this would be easy, that I'd just be able to knock up a list quickly and post but no! It's taken me a while to really think about what would be in my top ten and there has been a few revisions before I fine-tuned my list.  For some reason it took me AGES to sort my links and images, but finally I got it sorted. So let me share with you, my personal top ten. 10. Cocktails There is nothing like a well-made cocktail and its not just for the ladies of Sex and the City.  Finding a cool cocktail bar in a new city should be on anyone's Things to Do list.  We found a great bar in Krakow that claime...

Having a 'Carrie' moment

Image
I know its not everyone's cup of tea but I really miss the Sex and the City series.  Yes, the films are good (well the first one was, the second not so good) but the series was a weekly fix of fashion moments.  I always wanted one of Carrie's collection of clutches, my favourites scene was in the last episode, when Carrie was stuck in Paris waiting for her artist boyfriend to pay her some attention.  Digging around in her vintage clutch, she found her 'Carrie' necklace and realised that she needed to be back in New York with her friends.  The rest is SATC history, she was rescued by Big and whisked back to her most important accessory - New York city.  Hey, even Park Avenue Princesses need rescuing sometimes! Anyhow, obviously I can't afford Chanel vintage but still wanted to get a bit of Carrie's vintage style but have lucked out on finding anything in my local charity shops and my Ebay experiences have been not so great - I just can't get my head around...

The Shoe Interview

Image
While it would be great to write about the latest addition to my shoe collection or what's on offer on the high street, in this current climate I can't simply write about what I've bought or what you can buy.  While I would honestly buy a new pair of shoes a week (okay, a new pair a day) the current financial climate means I can't and I won't. But I still want to write about shoes, I love shoes, it's not materialistic, some woman like handbags, others collect art or figurines . . . I love shoes, always have been a shoe person, always will be.  This blog is really about my love of shoes, with other bits about my life mingled in.  So to mix it up, but continue with the theme, I'm going to explore what my friends, families and colleagues think about shoes too.  Look at what they like, memories surrounding their shoes and why they were bought.  So here is my first 'shoe interview'. Chrissie is both a friend and a work colleague, she's married with ...

Ode to Mad Men

Image
I have to admit that I'm not an avid follower of Mad Men , but I do love the style and fashion used and inspired by the programme.  Since the new season has just been launched on US TV, there's been loads of press and magazine coverage about how you can emulate the ' Mad Men' style. So I looked at a couple of vintage items to see if I had anything to work with.  I've had this vintage bag (bought from a Barnados shop) residing at the top of my wardrobe for a couple of years now.  Its a quite old but in fantastic condition, very lady chic.  As fashion is taking inspiration from Mad Men ,  I've finally got a great excuse to give my bag a proper airing.  The magazines seem full of similar style bags, so perhaps I don't have to indulge in retail therapy to meet the trend and channel my inner 'Joan' ( Mad Men fans will know who I'm talking about).  I just added a scarf and was ready to go!  I'm just grateful that the our office has comput...

Something old . . . something new . . .

Image
When I was getting married, I did what any bride-to-be would do, raided magazines for ideas and started drafting a big wish list. I'd noticed that a lot of brides had gone for a vintage feel with bouquets made of brooches rather than opting for fresh flowers. This was definitely what I wanted as part of my outfit. When I researched them, the price was just too high for my budget. I mentioned the bouquets to my friend Sylvia who is really creative and to be honest can make something special out of very little. She was up for the challenge, so Project Bouquet commenced! I love vintage brooches, so raided my collection to find suitable pieces. A key part of the bouquet was a butterfly brooch that my mum bought her mum with her first pay packet. I love that a bit of family history would be with me on my wedding day while a lot of my family couldn't be with me. In the style of thrift, we spent a great day at charity shops in Preston finding pearl necklaces and diamante bracelets th...

Shopping at mum's boutique

Image
My mum is 61 although you wouldn't believe it. Here she is, pictured with me on my hen night. I'm hoping that me and my sisters have inherited her youthful skin, but I definitely take after her with a love of shoes! I've been reviewing my wardrobe lately and updating it with essentials but in a spendthrift way. Recently I did need to buy a new pair of jeans but resisted the lure of a linen pinstripe jacket. I thought about similar jackets I had back in my wardrobe that were already suitable, saving myself a couple of pounds too. But I still wanted some new additions to my wardrobe, I just did not want to spend money to acquire them. I love vintage but my collection is limited to brooches and the occasional bag. Unfortunately, as mum is under 5' and a size 4 inheriting some of her wardrobe is definitely not a possibility. However, her accessory drawer is one size fits all! So recently,  I've acquired some enamel earrings from the eighties that I remember...

Wedding Shoes

Image
I got married in 2009 in Vegas, we didn't have years to plan the wedding but wanted something small, not to fussy. Hence we went to Vegas! I didnt want a formal white wedding dress but something to go with my most treasured pair of shoes - Marc Jacobs I bought in San Fran a couple of years earlier (worthy of their own blog post later)The dress I chose was both different and not my first choice - it was salmon pink, had netted skirts and certainly didn't match my marc jacobs pale blue mary janes! However, finding the right shoes wasn't such a dilemma. I found a cute pair of silver shoes in New Look that really suited the dress. Another bonus was that they were kind of sixties style and reminded me of my mother's wedding shoes which I'd always liked. It helped me obtain a vintage style that I like and perfectly matched the vintage bouquet that a friend made for me. check out the picture!
